The Story of Flourish

The Beginning

I graduated in 2013 with my Master's of Science in Occupational Therapy from Ithaca College in Ithaca, NY. I worked at a SNF (which I hated) and then went into pediatrics (like originally planned!). I had a love/hate relationship with the limitations of insurance and the amount of paperwork involved in a school-based setting.

In 2016 I found out about pelvic floor therapy, and after some preliminary Googling and web-based courses, I took my first course (Herman & Wallace Pelvic Floor Level 1).

When I tell you it lit a fire in me, that would be an understatement. I felt like my passion and my career might finally line up if I could just find a job.

I did it! I found a job working for a pelvic floor physical therapy clinic in 2017, and a physical therapist there mentored me throughout my first year on the job. It was an incredible experience!

Shortly after having my first son, I decided to take a break from working. I already knew I had wanted to start my own business...I just wasn't sure if it was the right time and wasn't sure how long I'd want to be home with my son.

It turns out, it wasn't as long as I had originally thought it'd be!

Opening My Clinic

In January 2020, with my 10 month old on my hip, I opened my pelvic floor therapy clinic as a home-based therapist.

Wait, that sounds too easy.

In reality, it was after I had spent hundreds (possibly thousands) of hours trying to figure out how to create a website, researching various platforms & subscriptions, branding information, marketing research, financial necessities, and so. much. more.

Of course, in March 2020, we had to switch over to virtual visits & mostly consultative treating. I also found out that I was pregnant with our second child!

I waited until June 2020 to start treating patients again, and treated virtually during the spring. I was able to find a few patients and start building a caseload, but the real growth came when I got a clinic space in September 2020. All of a sudden I went from maybe 2-3 clients a week to 8-10 while working 2 days a week.

In 2021, I saw a gigantic growth in the business. My profits tripled. My patient numbers skyrocketed and I rebranded from Empower Your Pelvis into Flourish Pelvic Health & Wellness. I began a mentorship program, and began to mentor some seriously phenomenal OTs into navigating their own business structures, pelvic health clinical skills, and so much more.

In 2022, I grew and built a team of an administrative assistant and pelvic health occupational therapy practitioners. My revenue tripled again.

In 2021, I created the first "round" of the Flourish Mentorship Program. I had 8 mentees sign up, and speaking with each one of my mentees became my absolute favorite part of the week.

I realized that after 3-5 months, most of my mentees knew enough to begin their own business and absolutely thrive clinically. This led me to create a more structured program.

The Flourish Mentorship Program currently offers both group mentorship & individual mentorship to meet everyone’s needs at whatever part of this journey that you’re on, in a private Circle community!

Now, as I’m typing this in September 2023- the mentorship program has a TEAM! What an absolutely incredible experience it’s been so far, and I can’t wait to watch this program continue to grow.
